Hiring: Administrative Assistant

The Dogwood Alliance is now hiring for an Administrative Assistant position. They are looking for someone with experience in calendar management, event planning, and general administration, but also welcome applicants who may have gained that experience in non-work settings.

Position: Administrative Assistant

The Administrative Assistant supports the Dogwood staff, board, volunteers,  and interns, and helps to ensure smooth-running office operations. This position requires an energetic and motivated self-starter, with an eye for detail, excellent follow-through,  and an eagerness to learn and grow professionally. We are looking for somebody who knows what it takes to support a busy team, prioritize competing tasks, and keep work on track and moving forward.

Office operations  (45%): Work with the Operations Manager and the Director of Finance & Operations to ensure that all staff have the operational and financial resources they need to do their work. This includes managing office space and supplies, maintaining files and records, coordinating submission of financial documentation, overseeing outsourced cleaning services, monitoring compliance issues, and other tasks as needed.

Support to the Executive Director (45%): Provide administrative and logistical support for the Executive Director, to allow her to engage most productively with Dogwood’s board, staff, and external audiences. This will include calendar management, email and phone screening, travel coordination, and a variety of other needs that may arise.

Surge Capacity across Dogwood (10%): Provide short-term assistance to other Dogwood teams on an as-needed basis during particularly busy times, or when staffing or other needs arise.

  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Self-starter, able to prioritize tasks and drive projects to completion
  • Experience working with a high-performance collaborative team, whether in a professional, volunteer, academic, or another setting
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Eagerness to learn and grow professionally
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to and passion for Dogwood’s mission
  • 1-3  years of experience in administrative and/or office work preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required
  • Prior experience in an executive support role highly desirable

Working Conditions

The Administrative Assistant role is a full-time, non-exempt, position and will be based in Dogwood’s Asheville office.  The Administrative Assistant will report to the Operations Manager.
